Florence – The Fondazione Solidarietà Caritas Firenze is proud to announce its participation as a partner in the “Belong” project (Football Employed to Facilitate the Integration of Adolescent Refugees), a pilot initiative of European significance promoted by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and funded by the European Commission, with the valuable support of UEFA.

The “Belong” project was created to tackle one of the most pressing social challenges in the European Union: the urgent need to promote the social integration of adolescent refugees, focusing in particular on the crucial age group between 10 and 18 years old.

Through football, a sport universally recognised for its ability to bring people together and create a strong sense of belonging, “Belong” aims to build concrete and lasting pathways to inclusion for these young people.

The Fondazione Solidarietà Caritas Firenze is part of a qualified consortium that also includes the CEIS Modena Group Consortium, the CEIS Civitavecchia Group Consortium and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore). The common objective is to develop and apply, in three local contexts with a high concentration of refugees, a scientific and replicable methodology that uses sport as a fundamental educational and social lever.

“By taking part in ‘Belong’, the Fondazione Solidarietà Caritas Firenze is renewing and strengthening our daily commitment within the city to building more welcoming, inclusive and supportive communities,” comments the Foundation’s Board of Directors. “We firmly believe in the transformative power of sport as a key vehicle for learning, mutual respect and the full integration of refugee boys and girls.”

The “Belong” project is a shining example of collaboration between the world of sport, European institutions and the third sector, aimed at turning the challenge of migration into an opportunity for shared social growth.
