About the project

The Vision

Inclusion and sport are two concepts that go hand in hand. The BELONG project is a European pilot initiative awarded by the European Commission to the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). It addresses a pressing issue across the European Union: the social integration of refugee adolescents. We believe that sport is a fundamental tool for fostering acceptance and growth, especially for those at the critical age of 10 to 18.

A Scientific and Collaborative Approach

Supported by UEFA, BELONG is a collaborative partnership that brings together the FIGC, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore), and three prominent local NGOs. Together, we have developed a scientifically based methodology that combines:

• Athletic Excellence: Training sessions led by FIGC Youth and School Sector coaches.
• Educational Growth: Non-sporting activities designed by Unimore to promote health, mutual trust, and social cohesion.
• Community Engagement: Tournaments and school meetings where adolescents can share experiences and build lasting bonds with their peers.
